IAP is coordinating a postcard advocacy campaign in collaboration with the NGO Forum on the Asian Development Bank and other civil society organizations in South and Southeast Asia. This campaign is part of a broader regional advocacy campaign around the ADB's Safeguard Policy Update.
Stakeholders of ADB projects across Asia sent us photographs of and
messages about impacts they are suffering from flawed ADB projects in
their region. IAP converted these photographs and messages into over
3000 postcards, and sent them to grassroots regional coordinators in 20
different regions across Asia. The coordinators used
the postcards to raise awareness of the Safeguard Policy Update process among
affected communities and gather hand-written messages and signatures
from community members. These postcards will be simultaneously
delivered to the ADB Board of Directors prior to their discussion of
the second draft of the revised Safeguard Policies.
This project is both an advocacy campaign directed at the Asian Development Bank, as well as an important opportunity for affected communities to raise their voices and demand participation in the policy decisions that affect their lives.
